SHERIDAN, Ark. - The Rev. Basil Edwards, 91, died Nov. 14, 2006.
Born Nov. 11, 1915, the son of the late Oscar J. and Hazel Harper Edwards, he was also raised by his stepmother, Elva Edwards. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church at Sheridan and had served as pastor of Assemblies of God Churches in Leola, Harrison, Warren, West Memphis and Little Rock. He formerly served on the Arkansas Assemblies of God Executive Presbytery Board.
In 1938, he married Janie Ezelle Freeman who preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Richard Dale Edwards; two brothers, Donald Edwards and O.J. Edwards; and two sisters, Arline Moody and Lorene Holiman.
Survivors include: two daughters and one son-in-law, Jane Ellen and Russell Whitten of Sikeston, Mo., and Sally Ann Jones of North Little Rock; two brothers, Eugene Edwards of Poyen and Johnny Edwards of Prattsville; two sisters, Bobbie Byrd of Malvern and Frances Smedley of Hot Springs; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home of Sheridan. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Assembly of God Church at Sheridan with the Rev. Jimmy Bobo and Arkansas Assemblies of God District Superintendent Rev. Larry Moore officiating.
Burial will be in Lost Creek Cemetery.
