SIKESTON - An investigator from the Missouri State Fire Marshall's office and officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety began an investigation Saturday into the cause of a fire which extensively damaged a local fast food restaurant.

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to a structure fire at around 1:20 p.m. Friday at Taco Bell, 1413 E. Malone.

The fire, which was reported by employees to have started in a west wall, extended into the attic/roof area of the building.

For approximately two hours, DPS officers battled the blaze before gaining control. They were on the scene for an additional hour putting out hot spots, according to a report from Capt. Dan Armour, acting director of the Sikeston DPS.

DPS fire division personnel remained on the scene throughout Friday night to control spot fires and maintain security until the investigation into the cause of the fire could begin.

Although the building was occupied at the discovery time of the fire, all were cleared with no injuries sustained.
