CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Clyde Edward Reed, Sr., 94, formerly of Scott City and Commerce, died Jan. 5, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Oct. 20, 1912, in Blodgett, son of the late William Arthur and Nora Peel Reed, he was a master pilot and captain from 1944 to 1972 for Lea River Lines and Upper Mississippi Towing Corp. and the Heinz Barge Lines. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cape Girardeau.

On Nov. 9, 1936, he married Eva Mae Bradshaw Moore, who died March 18, 1960. In Dec. 1963, he married Frances Helena Coble Norton, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: three sons, Clyde Reed Jr. of Big Canoe, Ga., Odis Reed of Houston and Rodger Reed of Jackson; two daughters, Patricia LeGrand of Houston and Susan Bond of Cape Girardeau; one half-brother, Curtis Clymer of Cape Girardeau; one half-sister, Dorothy Kunz of St. Louis; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Thomas Morris will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Cemetery at Morley.
