Personal property lists are in mail

Friday, January 5, 2007

BENTON - The 2007 Personal Property Assessment lists are in the mail.

Scott County Assessor Teresa Houchin said all property owners including businesses must report all personal property owned or held on Jan. 1 to the Assessor's office. The deadline for reporting the property is March 1.

Property owners who do not return a completed list to the assessor by the deadline may be subject to a penalty (per State Statutes) ranging from $10 to $100, depending on the value of the property. Anyone who owns personal property, who moves county to county, needs to notify both county assessors to report address changes.

This month, Houchin's office mailed every property owner a form on which the taxable personal property must be reported. Property owners or lessees who have not received a list are not excused from filing and should contact the assessor for a blank form. The assessor can be contacted by writing: Scott County Assessor's Office, P.O. Box 245, Benton, MO 63736 or calling 545-3535.
