Sikeston holds off Poplar Bluff

POPLAR BLUFF -- The Sikeston baseball team improved to 4-3 on the season and 3-2 in the SEMO Conference with an 8-6 road victory against Poplar Bluff on Tuesday.

Sikeston bolted out to an 8-3 lead and held off a late Mule rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to record the victory.

Tyler Baker had the big day at the plate, going 3-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored.

Nick Lambert went 2-4 with a run and an RBI.

Others were Joey Williams (1-3, double, 2 runs, RBI), Chase Ferrell (1-4, RBI), Cody Anderson (1-2, 2 runs, RBI), Josh Jackson (1-4, RBI) and Scott Droddy (2 runs, 2 steals).

Lambert was the winning pitcher, going five innings and allowing three runs off two hits with four strikeouts and four walks.

Droddy came in for relief in the seventh inning and recorded the save.

Sikeston jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Poplar Bluff could score three runs in the bottom of the third. The Bulldogs tacked on two runs in the fourth and added a run in the fifth to pad the lead.

Poplar Bluff's (2-2, 2-2 SEMO) Coen was the losing pitcher.

Sikeston will play at Reidland, Ky., on Friday at 3 p.m. and then immediately after at 5 p.m. in the McCracken County Wood Bat Tournament. The Bulldogs will play in the tournament on Saturday at Heath High School at 1 and 3 p.m.

The Oran Eagles baseball team improved to 5-0 with a 14-1 rout over Oak Ridge.

Oran put the game away with seven runs in the top of the sixth. Kody Campbell led the offensive charge for the Eagles going 3-for-5 with a home run and two doubles.

Chase Seyer went 3-3 with a double and Chris Asmus collected two hits for the visiting Eagles.

Jayden Pobst picked up the win going four innings allowing two hits, struckout six and walked one.

Oran hosts Scott City today at 4 p.m.

The Bell City Cubs improved to 2-0 on the season with a 4-3 victory against Leopold.

Clay Dover drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Nick Niemczyk was the winning pitcher for the Cubs with one inning of relief.

Top hitters for Bell City were Blaine Stewart (2-4, 2 runs), Kerry Lasters (double) and Garrett McIntyre (2-3).

Bell City will host Richland today at 4:15 p.m.

Fredericktown 2, Sikeston 1

FREDERICKTOWN - The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs soccer team lost on the road Tuesday at Fredericktown, 2-1.

The lone goal for Sikeston was scored at 27:00 of the first half on the foot of sophomore Jordi Ferrell. Allison Blurton recorded the assist.

Courtney Kemp of Fredericktown scored two goals late for Fredericktown, the first at 70:00 on an assist by Johnna Tinnin.

Kemp scored the go-ahead goal unassisted five minutes later to give the Lady Blackcats their first ever school victory for girls soccer.

Sikeston outshot Fredericktown 22-14 and goalie Paige Silverthorn recorded 12 saves for the Lady Bulldogs.

Sikeston (2-5) travels to Poplar Bluff next Thursday at 5 p.m.
