Sunday, September 10, 2006

SIKESTON -- Tim Thompson, principal at Scott County Central Elementary, and Lennies McFerren, principal at Scott County Central High School, were among over 100 administrators from around Missouri who attended New School Leaders Training held Aug. 3-4 at Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

Sponsored by The Missouri Partnership for Mentoring School Leaders, the training is designed to assist new building administrators to begin their careers in a positive manner.

Tim Hart, Heart of Missouri Regional Professional Development Center, opened the meeting with program expectations. Dr. Kent King, commissioner of education with the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, addressed the group during lunch.

During the afternoon breakout sessions, topics addressed were "Tips for Staring the School Year" and "Balanced Leadership." The next day's sessions included legal issues; assessment and using data; principal certification; and positive relationships.
