KEWANEE -- Anita Marie Gaines, 85, died at 9:45 p.m. Jan. 1, 2007, at her great-
niece's home in New Madrid.
Born March 28, 1921, in Commerce, to the late John William and Mildred Oma Daugherty Brotherton, she was a member of the Kewanee United Methodist Church. A housewife, she was the former postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in Kewanee.
Her husband, Richard Hiram Gaines, preceded her in death on April 10, 1969.
One son, Lynn Gaines; one brother; and three sisters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two nieces and a spouse, Doris Jean Schurenberg and Mary and Gary Wagley, all of New Madrid; one nephew, Stephen Wagley of New Madrid; one great-niece and her spouse, Jean Ann and Kevin Morris of New Madrid; three great-great- nieces and nephews; and a special care giver, Dorothy Bevly of New Madrid.
There was no visitation. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Garden of Memories Cemetery. The Rev. Toni Dee, pastor of the Kewanee United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Nunnelee Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
