Nub Southard

EAST PRAIRIE -- F. E. "Nub" Southard, 82, died at 10 a.m. Dec. 31, 2006, at his home in East Prairie.

Born June 11, 1924, in East Prairie to the late Frank Southard and Alma Powers Southard Morgan, Nub was employed at Shelby Furniture and Undertaking for over 40 years. After retiring he worked for Mix-N-Match Billiards Pool Room in East Prairie until ill health kept him from working. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In 1948, he married Thelma Ruth Belvin who preceded him in death on April 22, 1970. On Nov. 17, 1970, in East Prairie, he married Laura Jane Johnson who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Debbie McCurter of East Prairie; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and John Sailors of Sikeston and Judy and Ronnie Wallace of East Prairie; three brothers, Marion "Bud" Morgan, Jack Morgan and Larry Morgan, all of East Prairie; two sisters, Shirley Jeude of St. Louis and Iva Hatton of Belleville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, LeAnne Stallings and Homer Lee "Quad" Stallings of Sikeston, Laurie Housman of Charleston, Elizabeth Johnson of East Prairie, Rebecca Wallace of Springfield, Terry McCurter and Shawn Knupp of East Prairie, Harley McCurter of Whiteman A.F.B., Berry Knupp and Mattie Turner of East Prairie; 16 great-grandchildren, Connor Stallings, Rayan and Braxton Housman, Autumn Johnson, Hunter, Tyler and Austyn McCurter, Logan Knupp, Dakota, Gage, Abby and Morgan McCurter, Tiffany, Brittany, Steven II and Blade Turner; and other relatives and many friends.

One daughter, Clariece "Riece" Knupp; one granddaughter, Laura Michelle Wallace; and six brothers, Frankie Southard, Gene, Howard, Marvin, Carl and Bill Morgan preceded Nub in death.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday with Mike Worrell officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Quad Stallings, Connor Stallings, Terry McCurter, Harley McCurter, Shawn Knupp and Berry Knupp.
