SIKESTON - Sikeston has dominated three places in the 1946 SeMo Conference All-Star football team, as picked by the coaches of the conference teams.

SIKESTON - Firemen were called at 1:30 p.m. today to extinguish a blaze at Lambert's Cafe, Highway 61 South. There was no damage. A transformer to the neon sign at the front of the building apparently shorted and caused wires to burn and smoke.


SIKESTON - William Scarbrough, a Boy Scout leader 15 years, was elected chairman of the Okeechobee district of the Boy Scouts at the annual district meeting Thursday night at the Mid-Towner Restaurant.

SIKESTON - Norman Lambert, owner of Lambert's Cafe has plans for a spot located a half-mile up East Malone Avenue from the current home of the famous eating establishment. Lambert said his new cafe will seat 300 and have space for 115 cars in its parking lot. Groundbreaking gets under way in the spring.

SIKESTON - The Missouri Division of Family Services held their annual Christmas party for foster children Saturday at the Sikeston Eagles Club. A special visit from St. Nick was the featured event for the several hundred special guests.


MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Scientists now have geologic evidence to back up their estimates of when the next strong earthquake could hit the central United States. Scientists give a probability of up to 60 percent for a damaging New Madrid quake, magnitude 6.0 or higher, within 15 years. Over 50 years, that figure climbs to more than 95 percent.


LOS ANGELES (AP) - The average pump price for all gasoline grades, including taxes, was $1.30 per gallon on Friday, down one-hundredth of a cent from two weeks ago, according to the Lundberg Survey of 10,000 stations nationwide.
