PORTAGEVILLE - John Hampton, 79, died Dec. 9, 2006, at the Portageville Nursing Center.

Born April 2, 1927, at Hornersville, son of the late Jim and Fannie Maeher Hampton, he was a veteran of World War II.

He was married to Clementeen Cummings, who preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1992.

Also preceding him in death were: two brothers, Jim Hampton and Joe Hampton; and three sisters, Pauline Hampton, Cora Conley and Effie Anderson.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Violet Hampton of Clearwater, Fla., and Terry Lynn "Bo" and Joyce Hampton of Lilbourn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Bob Thacker of Portageville and Kathy and Bobby Lee Miller of Marston; two brothers, Steve Hampton of Gallion, Ala., and Willie Hampton of Arnold; three sisters, Dora Mae Hayes of Kennett, Ethel Hudson of Corning, Ark., and Sally Pittman of the state of Mississippi; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. today at First United Pentecostal Church. The Rev. Allan Gentry officiated.

Burial with full military rites followed in the Portageville Cemetery.

DeLisle Funeral Home of Portageville was in charge of arrangements.
