CHARLESTON -- Carl Williams Asa, 78, died at 8:45 p.m. March 17, 2008, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Nov. 28, 1930, in Dexter, he was the son of late Hershel William and Retha Evans Asa. Following his discharge from the U.S. Air Force in 1954, he moved to Charleston, where he was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was employed as an agent with American General Life Insurance Company for many years until his retirement in 1992.
On Dec. 28, 1951, he married Juliette Marie "Judy" Duncan who preceded him in death on March 24, 2007.
Survivors include: one son, Todd Asa of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Carla Vanover of Sikeston, Jeri Nanney of Prattville, Ala., and Teri McCann of Charleston; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and special friends, the Barney Reeves family.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, officiating.
Burial with military graveside rites conducted by Missouri Military Honor Guard will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Buddy Reeves, Dustin McCann, Benjamin Nanney, Chris Vanover, Jeff Miles and Daniel Mudd.
