Vehicle crashes into homes

Cause of accident is still under investigation by Sikeston DPS

SIKESTON -- Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers are investigating a vehicle accident which left two Sikeston homes damaged on Sunday afternoon.

According to a news release issued this morning by DPS, at around 4:30 p.m. officers responded to a report that a vehicle that ran off the side of the road and struck two homes on the 500 block of West Murray Lane.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers found a vehicle in the front yard of 506 W. Murray Lane. This home and 508 W. Murray Lane were reportedly damaged after a vehicle that was traveling eastbound ran off the side of the road, went through a fence and struck the homes.

According to the news release, the car was driven by Barbara Shannon, 53, of Sikeston.

While no one was at either home at the time of the incident, both residences sustained severe damage as a result of the accident.

Shannon was transported by air ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Her condition was unknown as of press time. Other than the driver, no one other injuries were reported.

The cause of the accident is undetermined and remains under investigation.
