Speakout 10/9

Monday, October 9, 2006

I was just watching this talk show where they were talking about New York trying to ban french fries and different foods. Everybody has a right to eat what they want and nobody has a right to tell them what they can and cannot eat. It's getting stupid and that ought to be illegal to be able to tell somebody they can't eat french fries when they go out in public, yet people get drunk when they go out in public. There's such as thing as too far and this is too far. People are not too fat because of the food, they are too fat because they overeat the food. I know because I'm a woman who used to weigh 500 pounds. This is just stupid and ignorant.

I just read in your SpeakOut column about they get everything free. That's a bunch of bull crud. This is coming from an idiot that has never worked in home health that's never seen these senior citizens struggling to see do they make this co-pay on their medicines or do they eat that month. Trust me, they don't get everything free. Meanwhile, these other people out here, they know how to work the system, they are the ones getting everything free. They don't pay taxes, get food stamps and go out and get pregnant so they can get more money on their debit card. And they say senior citizens get everything free? Bull crap! They are the ones that actually worked for what they have. They earned it. Get a life and get over yourself. The whole world done did.

Last night two teenage girls went to the carnival in Sikeston. It began to rain and the wind blew hard. There was a man there that told them to get in the automobile with him that there was a tornado coming. Thank God they knew better. I hope they will always have an officer there for these girls. One of the girls told him that her mom was on her way and that her cousin was there. Please write this as a warning to all young children. Have several officers out there if you can.

I have a gripe about the Cotton Carnival parade. The parade ended on the west end of town and we were watching along by Malone Park. The band members and other groups who got to the end turned around and walked back up the parade route in big groups. They didn't walk behind the spectators. They walked right down the street in the middle of the parade. It looked like two parades. One going east and one going west. How stupid can people be? They could just as easily walked behind the people who were watching the parade and not interfered with the parade itself. Also, an out of town fire truck in the parade was blowing his horn and a police officer told him that was not allowed. What kind of deal is that? There are supposed to be horns and sirens in a parade.

Attention Senior citizens: Do you know that the first three Tuesdays of each and every month there is a Senior citizen dance? You may attend if you are single or married. If you don't dance but love music, you can sit and listen to the music. There are also two nice gentlemen who sing for us. The first Tuesday is at the Elks Club and there is no charge. The second Tuesday is at the Eagles and the fee is $5 for each person. The third Tuesday is at the American Legion and there is a $5 fee for each person also. The time is from 7 to 10 p.m. You can dress up or come in casual attire.
