THEBES, Ill. - James Chester Elliott, 58, formerly of Scott and Mississippi County, died at 6:30 a.m. June 19, 2006, at the V.A. Medical Center in Marion.
Born Sept. 28, 1947, in Cairo, to Mary Alberta Sands Elliott of Sikeston, Mo., and the late James Chester Elliott Sr., he was a graduate of St. Mary University in San Antonio. After serving with the United States Army for two years during the Vietnam War, he moved to Casper, Wyo., where he was employed with the Burlington Northern Train Line until his retirement in 1994. In 2000, he returned to Sikeston, where he lived until moving to Thebes in 2004.
He was united in marriage to Paula Wolford who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one sister, Regina Elliott Medley of Houston; and three nieces, Andrea Stephenson of Alton, Deanna Elliott of Roxanna and Tina Lasater of Salem, Ore.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert Lee Elliott and Robert Dell Chamness.
Graveside services with Full Military Rites conducted by the Missouri Military Honor Guard will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston. Mike Gunter of Marion will officiate.
McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
