EAST PRAIRIE - Chester Bert Keene, 63, died at 1:27 a.m. Sept. 12 2006, at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born Oct. 31, 1942, at East Prairie, to the late Theodore and Goldie Carnahan Keene, he lived his entire life in East Prairie where he was a member of the St. James General Baptist Church. He had worked at Brown Shoe Company at Charleston and as the building supervisor and custodian for the Mississippi County Courthouse until his retirement. He played bass guitar with gospel bands and his church congregation.
Survivors include: three daughters, Stephanie Keene of East Prairie, Penny Martin of Puxico and Tracie Keene of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Mary Joyce Bright of East Prairie; and five grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. David Dowdy, pastor of the St. James General Baptist Church of East Prairie and the Rev. Raymond "Buddy" Hannah of Park Hills, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: C.W. Keene, Wayne Stallings, Charles Moore, Freddy Portwood, Sean Allred and Ranney McDonough.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Jerry Redferring, Harold Banks, Jerry Turley, Bud Morgan and Clyde Miller.
