SIKESTON - Irl Cox announced today that he has purchased the Country Feed Store from C.K. Morris. The business is located west of the Homestead Hotel on Highway 60.
SIKESTON - The first bale of cotton was ginned in the Sikeston area this week. Cotton picking, for all practical purposes, will not begin until the last week in September.

SIKESTON - Dr. Tony Poole, chairman of this year's United Way campaign, presided at a kick-off breakfast this morning for about 40 volunteers. The goal for the campaign is $58,300, which will go to assist 14 local agencies and organizations.
EAST PRAIRIE - By a 3-1 vote Wednesday evening the City Council adopted amendments to the city's liquor ordinance. Revisions and clarifications for the ordinance apparently are the results of a controversial issue in July when owners of a proposed convenience store were granted a 5 percent package liquor license. A nearby church congregation objected on grounds, among other things, that the store was too near the church property.
SIKESTON - Everyone could use a new look once in a while and Sikeston Public School officials said it's time the Board of Education Administration Building underwent a change in its appearance. After all, no modifications have been made to the facility since it was built in 1974. First on the Board's to-do list is expanding the office. The main focus of the plan is to make the office building at 1002 Virginia St. better handicapped accessible.
