ANNISTON - Vennie Marie Switzer McClendon, 89, died at 6:05 a.m. June 11, 2006, at her daughter's home in Cape Girardeau.

Born Aug. 6, 1916, in Broken Arrow, Okla., to the late Emory C. and Captolia Jane Gilmore Switzer, she lived most of her life in Mississippi County. She was retired from the Brown Shoe Company in Charleston and was a member of the Dogwood United Methodist Church.

On March 24, 1934, she married Eura Thomas "Dick" McClendon, who preceded her in death.

Two sons, Eura Clyde and Dickie Leon McClendon; three brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Connie McClendon of Bertrand; three daughters and sons-in-law, Eugenia and Lee Wetzel of Cape Girardeau, Shirma and Paul Laughlin of St. Louis and Mildred and Bill Becker of Houston; one sister, Alma Faye Morgan of Sebring, Fla.; and 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Stella Turner will officiate. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Dean Becker, Michael Becker, Harold Becker, Mark Laughlin, Clyde McClendon, Eric McClendon, Todd McClendon, Troy McClendon, Charlie McClendon and Chase McClendon.
