CHARLESTON - William C. "Bill" Russell, 73, died at 7 a.m. June 13, 2006, at his residence in Charleston.
Born Oct. 22, 1932, in Charleston, son of the late Thomas B. and Frances Neola Lovelace Russell, he had lived in Charleston his entire life where he was a member of the United Methodist Church. In 1953, he began working with Frances Daniel at the Daniel Insurance Agency and purchased the agency after her retirement. The agency merged with the Coon Insurance Agency in 1984, and he worked until his retirement in 1995.
In 1953, he married Billie Summers, who survives of the home.
Survivors include: three daughters and two sons-in-law; Laura Sue Matthews of Sikeston, Mary Jane and Bob Whitehead of Charleston, and Beckwith Ann French and Bill Harazin of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers; Thomas B. Russell Jr. of Norfolk, Va., and John Glen Russell of Culpeper, Va.; two sisters; Ellen Jane Jackson of Charleston and Mary Virginia Osborne of Lake Providence, La.; five grandchildren, Laura Jane Whitehead and her fiance, Cade Coon of Charleston, Katherine Ann "Katie" Whitehead of Memphis, Tenn., Christopher David Matthews Jr., Clayton Davis Matthews and Virginia Lennox "Ginny" Matthews, all of Sikeston.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Sue Russell, preceded him in death. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Charleston, with the Rev. Roger Jespersen officiating.
Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Reginald Young, Emmett Burke, Bob Coon Jr., Blair Moran, Jerry Smith and Stephen Burke.
