"Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales" is the theme of summer reading programs for children ages 3 to 12 while "Creature Feature" is the theme for those ages 12 to 18. The following is a breakdown of what local libraries plan to offer with their summer reading programs:

Preschool: ages 2-5

Dates: June 28-July 26 (A special kick off program will be held at 10 a.m. June 27.)

Time: 10 a.m. Wednesdays

June 27 - The Magic Storyteller

June 28 - Who's That Little Doggie in the Window?

July 5 - Mama Cat Has Three Kittens

July 12 - Commotion in the Ocean

July 19 - How High Can You Fly?

July 26 - Summer reading party

Dates: June 26-July 31

July 10 - Dr. Kelly Smith from the Delta Veterinarian Clinic will present a program about dogs.

July 17 - The Cat's Meow! Lynette Baker of the Humane Society will present a program on pets. July 24 - Scales and fins! The Army Corps of Engineers will present a program on snakes. July 31 - Bridgett Jackson from the Missouri Department of Conservation will present a program on "Fine Feathered Friends." Aug. 7 - Summer reading party.

Time: 10 a.m. except where noted.

June 15 - Story hour with Margaret Rowe and fun balloon activity

June 20 - Magician Teresa T (great for preschool to 8 years old, but all ages welcome)

June 21 - Magician David Tower (all ages but focused for grades 4-6).

July 3 - First check-in for books read (receive a prize for number of books read); coloring contest begins (pick up poster for contest).

July 19 - Meet the animals at the St. Louis Zoo. Join in the video conference with the St. Louis Zoo.

July 20 - Story hour reader to be announced.

July 24 - Second check-in for books read (receive a prize for number of books read).

Aug. 16 - Summer reading program awards party at 4 p.m.

Aug. 17 - Story hour reader to be announced.
