MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Gary D. Fama, 64, formerly of Sikeston, Mo, died at 11:30 p.m. Jan. 21, 2008, at his home in Memphis.
Born March 7, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. to the late Dominic A. "Nick" Fama and Mildred Louise Williams Fama, he grew up in Sikeston and attended St. Francis Xavier Grade School, graduating in 1958. He was a 1962 graduate of Sikeston High School. He moved to Memphis, where he graduated from Memphis State University in 1967 with a degree in sociology and psychology. He had worked for the Boy's Club of Memphis and was currently a social worker for the Shelby County, Tenn. Head Start program. He had attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Catholic Church, both in Memphis.
He was married to Dorothy Jones, who survives of Memphis.
Other survivors include: two sons, Sean Fama and Christian Fama of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Nicole Fama of Pensacola; one brother, Tim Fama of Memphis; and five grandchildren, Victoria Fama, Dylan Fama, Nicholas Fama and Lauren Fama of Jacksonville, Fla. and Naylin Fama of Pensacola.
His body was cremated. A memorial mass is scheduled for family and friends at 2 p.m. Feb. 2, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 277 4th Street in Memphis.
