SIKESTON - L.T. Pasley, Sikeston's oldest veteran of the War Between the States, died at St. Francis Hospital Saturday.

BENTON - The present and future farming practice of the Bootheel area has been boosted to a big degree, with the large increase in irrigation. This was demonstrated in a Scott County irrigation tour held yesterday in the northern portion of the county, when 50 or more farmers and soil conservation leaders made the daylong tour.

SIKESTON - A new logo and typeface, part of a corporate identity plan, has been announced at Missouri Delta Medical Center with the unveiling of a new logo design.


SIKESTON - Battling heat, only slightly less torrid than its own bats, sewed up the District 14 American Legion baseball title Saturday by clubbing Poplar Bluff 14-4 in five innings.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its annual Redneck BBQ Cook-off. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Chamber grounds the race will be on to see who in the community has the best recipe for barbecue ribs. "It will be blind judging," pointed out Chamber Executive Director Steve McPheeters. "The judges will not be able to identify the contestants' entries. It will be a tough choice, it will all be good." Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston Red team was red hot in Thursday's games of the Sikeston Invitational Rookie League Tournament. Sikeston Red had a total of 42 hits and 24 runs in their two games against Quilin and the Sikeston Black team. The Sikeston Red team outscored the Sikeston Black team 16-7 in four innings.


SIKESTON - An outdoor concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Malone Park on North Street featuring The Mid-America Teen Challenge New Creations Choir.
