DOGWOOD - Walter Mack McCormack, 83, died at 8:45 p.m. July 20, 2006, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born June 18, 1923, in Trimble, Tenn. to the late Robert and Wava McCormack Spelling, he was adopted by C.P. and Molly McCormack at the age of 18 months. He served in the US Navy from Nov. 1942 to Jan. 1946 as a gunner's mate 3rd class on the SS Franklin Macviech, SS San Bruno an the SS Sutherland. He was also a member and a deacon of the First Christian Church of Matthews.
On Feb. 6, 1946, he married Elsie Pauline Watts, who preceded him in death Jan. 1971. On Aug. 20, 1995, he married Carol Johnson Miller-Spangberg, who survives the home.
He is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Virginia McCormack of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Linda McCormack-Pearson of Pittsburg, Kan., and Johnnie Sue Thompson of San Diego; and 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday. Brian Smith, pastor of the First Christian Church in Matthews, will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.
