SIKESTON -- Louise LaVigne, 91, died April 7, 2006, at Clearview Nursing Center.
Born June 22, 1914, in Mississippi County, Ark., daughter of the late Elmer and Daisy Mae Beers Nickens, she was a member of Temple Baptist Church and owned and operated a beauty salon in Sikeston in the 1960's until her retirement. She lived briefly with her husband in Nuremberg, Germany, where he was stationed in the Army.
She married Art LaVigne who preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1998.
Also preceding her in death were: two sons, Robert Eugene "Bob" LaGrand and William Lester "Bill" LaGrand; three brothers, Clarence Arthur "Jack" Nickens, Elmer Nickens and Hiram "Butch" Nickens; and two sisters, Louisa Nickens Wood and Lucy Nickens Herring.
Survivors include: one grandson, Robert LaGrand Jr. of Lenexa, Kan.; and four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Dogwood Cemetery at Dogwood. The Rev. Dolan Rogers, pastor of First Baptist Church in Bertrand, will officiate.
