SIKESTON - The Scott-New Madrid-Mississippi Cooperative Association, an REA organization with headquarters in Sikeston, has been awarded a grant from the federal government to the tune of $296,000 to construct 200 miles of new line that will serve an additional 662 persons.

SIKESTON - Highway 61 from the north "Y" to the south "Y" will be widened into a four-lane roadway, according to W.C. Carney, district highway engineer in Sikeston. Carney said that lanes would be constructed on each side of the present lanes. He said the construction dates have not been set. The program is now in the preliminary planning stage and on the work programs.

SIKESTON - It rained before, during and after the Noranda Three-Man Scramble this weekend. But the Litz-Litz-Litz team was equally consistent. The three Jackson golfers shot a two-round score of 122 - 20 under par - to win the first big Sikeston Country Club event of the summer.

SIKESTON - Retired Circuit Judge Marshall Craig was honored at a banquet presented by the Missouri Delta Medical Center Foundation, of which he was a founding member and chairman.


SIKESTON - The Christian Block Party is set to begin with a parade, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, starting at the railroad depot downtown and finishing at the YMCA and Bailey School grounds. The event is designed to promote racial and denominational unity in the city. An opening ceremony follows the parade at 10 a.m. The day will be filled with music, games for kids, free food and will feature a number of clowns, skit and informational booths.
