Letter to the Editor

Your view: System is broken

Thursday, April 6, 2006

I would like to thank your newspaper for publishing Michael Jensen' article entitled "Misuse of Medicaid is ruining Missouri" and would like to thank Michael for speaking out on this topic. I hope he sends it to Matt Blunt to read. I totally agree with the article. I couldn't have said it better myself.

I have to pay a very high spend down each month in order to have insurance, which comes out of my Social Security check. I am disabled, but not by choice. I would love to be able to work again, as I did for 12 years before my health would no longer let me.

Paying this spend down is very rough and something has to be neglected. I think it is very unfair! I think the people who make these laws should have to live by them for one month. (That's all it would take). I guarantee things would change.

I know several people who are getting disability for the wrong reasons, because of doing the things you explained in your letter. It makes me so MAD! I wish they would research it better and figure out some way to stop people from getting this unfairly.

I know I am not telling Michael anything he doesn't already know. I just wanted to thank him (and the paper) for printing this well-needed letter. It really made my day that someone out there agrees with me that the system is being run wrong and definitely is ruining Missouri.

Thanks again for speaking out!

J. Reed
