CHARLESTON -- Another shooting is under investigation in Charleston.
About 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, the Charleston Department of Public Safety received calls of gunshots in the area of Lee and Gail Streets, according to a news release from Charleston DPS Chief Paul Johnson. After investigating the matter, officers found a vehicle parked near the intersection with several bullet holes. Two female victims were located. Both females were injured in the incident, but the injuries were not life-threatening. Each was treated and released at a local hospital. There are no witnesses and no suspects at this time. Public cooperation will be crucial in solving this crime, Johnson said.
Wednesday's shooting was the third to occur in Charleston within the past two weeks. The first shooting, which resulted in the murder of Shawn Johnson, 39, of Cairo, Ill., occurred around 2:30 a.m. on March 24 at a residence on South First Street. Then Justin Patrick Robinson, 23, of Charleston was shot to death on March 31 at the intersection of West Marshall Street and Locust Street.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Scene Investigative Team is assisting the Charleston Department of Public Safety with investigations for both murders. No arrests have been made.
