SIKESTON - John E. Ward, 70, died Aug. 19, 2006, near Piedmont.
Born Nov. 6, 1935, in Wilson, Ark., son of the late Ruben Lester and Lura Mae Jones Ward, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he was a jet engine mechanic. He attended the Bootheel Cowboy Church in Sikeston. He had owned and operated Mid-West LP Gas and later worked for Jennings Brothers Farms.
On May 28, 1955, he married Vivian C. "Butchie" Lannum, who preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 2003.
One brother also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, John N. and Cindy Ward of Sikeston and Tim and Kendra Ward of Dexter; one daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Tony O'Hara of Sikeston; five grandchildren, Tori Ward of Jackson, Brittany Ward and Justin Ward of Dexter and Nik Ward and Patrick O'Hara of Sikeston; and three great-grandchildren, John Tyler Carlisle and Taylor Ward of Jackson and Madelina Ward of Sikeston.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ponder Funeral Home where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. J.D. McClard, pastor of Bootheel Cowboy Church, will officiate.
Burial with full military rites will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
