SIKESTON - Carl Robert Hazel Sr., 78, died April 16, 2006, at his home in Sikeston.

Born March 3, 1928, in Springfield, Mo., son of the late Arthur and Ruby Gail (Letterman) Hazel, he attended school in Srpingfield, graduated from Aurora High School, was a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ, House Parents at Shady Acres Children's Home, the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, AM Radio Relay League, Inc. and Telephone Pioneers. He was active in the development of the Food Pantry at Shady Acres and served as a deacon at the Broadway and Madison Church of Christ in Springfield. He was a licensed realtor with First Realty GMAC Realtors and had been an installation supervisor for AT&T before retiring.

On June 20, 1945, he married Margaret "Peggy" (Stowe) Hazel who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Robert and Patti Hazel Jr. of Springfield and Dan Edwin and Angel Hazel of Escondido, Calif.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Margaret Gail "Margie" and Tony Hurt of Sikeston, Nancy Colleen Elliott of Springfield and Cynthia Susan "Cindy" and Rod Halliburton of Camden, Ark.; 13 grandchildren, Katie Jenkins, Julie Redden, Fawnda Messmer, Hannah Elliott, Colleen Elliott, Jennifer Hazel, Carl Hazel III, Sam Hazel, Craig Timmons, Chris Timmons, Hazel Halliburton, Harley Halliburton and Marshall Halliburton; and six great-grandchildren, Alexus Jenkins, Leyton Jenkins, McKenna Jenkins, Bryan Howell, Megan Howell and Sam Hazel II.

One brother, Morris Hazel; one sister, Dorothy Anne Richardson; and one son-in-law, Byron Elliott preceded him in death.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held, April 20, at 1 p.m. at Shady Acres Church of Christ. John Hester, Pat Hogan, ministers at Shady Acres Church of Christ, and Rod Halliburton, minister at Cullendale Church of Christ in Camden, Ark., will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Sikeston City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: John Hazel, Ervie McMillen, Don McFall, Tony Hurt, Carl Hazel III, Sam Hazel, Ron Jenkins, Larry Redden and Jim Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Wendell Pearson, Craig Timmons, Chris Timmons, Harley Halliburton, Marshall Halliburton, Bryan Howell and Leyton Jenkins.
