Your view: Stop trapping

Friday, July 14, 2006

Editor, Standard Democrat:

What does it say about us as a society when it is considered acceptable to cause pain, fear, and death to animals just to put a little fur trim on a coat ("More people turning to trapping as hobby, extra source of income," July 10)?

Everyone knows animals can suffer, yet fur trappers continue to rig traps to slam shut on animals' paws, crush their backs, and hold them--struggling and desperate--underwater to drown.

The trapped animals--including curious dogs and cats--can lay suffering and dying for up to 24 or even 48 hours before Missouri law requires the trapper to return.

It's time that fur trapping be dispatched to the dustbin of history, and we can all do our part by only buying fur-free clothing.

Sincerely,
