Bootheel man arrested for sodomy

CARUTHERSVILLE - A 10-month investigation has ended with the arrest of a Bragg City man on charges of statutory sodomy involving a child.

Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell reported the arrest of Carl D. Shumate, 55. Shumate is being held in the Pemiscot County Justice Center in Hayti on charges of first degree statutory sodomy with bond set at $100,000.

According to the sheriff's report, the investigation began in September 2005 after reports that Shumate had performed sexual acts on a 5-year-old child and possibly a second child. The incident was investigated by Pemiscot County sheriff deputies along with the Missouri Division of Family Services (children's division) in Dunklin County.
