SIKESTON - The Sikeston Board of Education in a special meeting June 1 made plans to hold an election so the public could vote on bonds to improve Bailey School.

DEXTER - The Department of Housing and Urban Development at Washington, D.C., has approved a $1.3 million construction loan for 100 low-

rent homes at Dexter including 70 for the elderly.

SIKESTON - Mrs. Warren E. Hearnes spoke to the 20th District Democrat Women's Club annual spring convention Thursday at the Holiday Inn. Mrs. Hearnes said that she and Gov. Hearnes received encouragement from the 10th District when Gov. Hearnes was running for office in 1964.

SIKESTON - It is a plan that should have been instigated long ago, according to Fielding Potashnick, talking about the four Delta Area Economic Corporate Neighborhood Service Centers to be formed in Scott County.

NEW MADRID - An old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration is scheduled for Southeast Missouri by resident of New Madrid on July 4 and 5. A large display of aerial fireworks is scheduled for July along the banks of the Mississippi River. "We are expecting a large turnout not only locally but from throughout Southeast Missouri," said Shirley Perry, president of the New Madrid Chamber of Commerce which is promoting the event.

KELSO - It took two games to determine the champion of the 12th annual Kelso Klassic, a fast-pitch tournament which drew 16 teams. In a battle of the pitchers, Bonutti Orthopedics took the win over Midwest GMC of St. Louis by a score of 1-0.

SIKESTON - Approximately $1,800 was raised Saturday at St. Jude Children's hospital's Walk-A-Thon. Some of the participants walked in memory of a friend or loved one.
