SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldog tennis team posted a 6-3 victory against Poplar Bluff on a windy Tuesday afternoon at Sikeston High School as they improved their record to 6-3 on the season.

"Poplar Bluff's got a couple of nice players at the top of their lineup," said Sikeston coach Brian James. "They're both very solid, but I thought Chris (Matthews) and Logan (Hampton) both had their moments against them.

Playing at those top two spots, they just need to dig in and be ready every day because every match is going to be tough for them. I thought from Clayton (Matthews) on down, we played very well in singles. My doubles teams have been a pleasant surprise so far. Hopefully we'll continue to play smart and play well in doubles."

Sikeston will play at Charleston on Thursday at 4 p.m.

"We'll be a little short handed coming up against Charleston on Thursday and, then again early next week," said James. "We've got a few leaving town for spring break, so it will give some of these other guys a chance to get in there and see what they can do in their spots."

Here are the results from the match.
