SIKESTON - R.A. McCord and Glenn Matthews Sr. have sold their interests in the Sikeston Auction Co. to D.L. Bloomfield, who is associated with Steward Hoover, a co-owner.
BENTON - Voters of Scott County will go to the polls May 3 to vote on reorganizing the county's seven school districts, R-1 and R-2. Last night after canvassing the ballots from Tuesday's election, the county board of education set the election date.
SIKESTON - A.C. James, contractor for the demolition of the old Sikeston Middle School property, presented to the City Council a newspaper found in the cornerstone of the old building at the Sikeston City council meeting Monday night. Mayor Allen Blanton accepted the Sikeston Standard paper, dated Dec. 3, 1915, on behalf of the council. Blanton stated that the paper will be read and then displayed somewhere in the City Administration Building for public viewing.
SIKESTON - Seventh-grade students from Sikeston Middle School recently participated in a math program to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. Students asked friends and relatives to pledge money for each math problem they worked. Participating were: Zach Sexton, Donald Tyra, Donnie Dixon, Alisha Hadley, Zac Fidler, Jacklyn Elsey, Courtney Pollock, Stacy Ellis, Amanda Thomas, Micah Cochran, Rebecca Kean and Mychelle Cecil.
KEWANEE - Stephen Culbreth was among those working at the Kewanee Cemetery to clear away the trees, weeds and undergrowth which had overtaken the area. A number of graves were located by Culbreth and his friends. A second cleanup day is scheduled for Saturday, and more workers are needed to complete the job.
