Review team called in for baby's death

Thursday, November 2, 2006

SIKESTON -- An investigation of the death of a Sikeston baby is under way.

According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety, about 12:47 a.m. Wednesday Sikeston DPS 911 received a report of an infant, 1-month-old Benjamin Holstein, not breathing at 274 N. Ranney St. Upon arrival, officers learned the father had taken the child from home and was heading to Missouri Delta Medical Center. While en route to the hospital, the father attempted to resuscitate the child. Upon arrival at the hospital, these efforts were taken over by hospital staff.

At about 1:28 a.m. the child was pronounced dead by an attending MDMC physician. At that time, the Child Death Fatality Review Board was convened to investigate the incident. As with normal procedure the Child Death Fatality Review Team will review the incident and continue the investigation into the death of the child.

"Our condolences go out to the family of young Benjamin," DPS Director Drew Juden said.
