Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead and held on for 'needed' win

SIKESTON -- In a battle of the Central's, the New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles came out on top Monday evening as they traveled to Scott Central to take on the Bravettes.

NMCC started out red-hot, and remained steady enough down the stretch to hold on for the 54-46 victory.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early nine point lead after one quarter, 20-11, and going into the break led by double-digits, 31-19.

Scott Central outscored their visiting opponent in the third quarter, 13-11, pulling within 10 points heading into the fourth quarter, 42-32. A late fourth quarter rally would pull the Bravettes within three points with a few minutes left in regulation.

Late in the fourth however, NMCC edged further and further away, regaining a commanding lead and eventually won by eight, 54-46.

Tameika and Shameika Williams provided most of the damage for the Lady Eagles, as they combined for 35 of the 54 total points for NMCC. Shameika led the way with 18, while Tameika added 17.

Jasmine Flennoy was the only other Lady Eagle in double figures with 11 points.

"We came in here and needed a win in the worst kind of way," NMCC head coach David Crockett. "We came out with one, but it wasn't pretty. They came in here and played hard--my hat's off to them."

"The first half we executed very well," he added. "In the second half, they forced us into some bad shots, and we let them force us into some bad shots. Overall, we got a win, and that's what we came here for."

The Bravettes were led by Brittney Jones, with 23 points, and Markita Mosley, who added 10.

NMCC heads to Delta Thursday evening to take on the Lady Bobcats, while Scott Central will be back in action Monday, Feb. 4 against Charleston.
