Jim Ledbetter

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Herschel "Jim" Ledbetter, son of the late Herschel Ledbetter and Naomi Keith Ledbetter was born on May 16,1932, at Oak Island and departed this life in the Veterans Home at Cape Girardeau on Jan. 30, 2008, at the age of 75.

Mr. Ledbetter served in the Army Air Force from Dec. 12, 1950 to Dec. 11, 1954. He was a basic Airman and earned the Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Jim worked on his grandparent's farm and his father's auto parts store in Parma and later owned and operated the store. He retired in 2005. He loved to play slot machines, sitting outside in the yard, picking up pecans and listening to '50's and '60's music and country and western.

He married his current wife, Billie, on Aug. 28, 2000. He has two stepchildren from his first marriage and two stepchildren with Billie.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at a later date at the Taylor Cemetery near Essex.

Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
