SIKESTON - The installation of 210 parking meters got under way in Sikeston this week. Sikeston is the first town in Southeast Missouri to receive the meters.

BENTON - Shirley McArthur, chairman of the Scott County ASCS committee, announced today that cotton marketing quotas will be voted on by mail Dec. 5-9. Farmers will vote on whether they favor marketing quotas for next year's cotton crop.

SIKESTON - Thirty landowners and members of the county courts of Scott, Mississippi and New Madrid, heard a Soil Conservation Service report on St. John's Bayou basin and the St. James watershed. Everything was outlined in a 35-page report by Dale Fishgrabe, area conservationist, and Verna Moss, Missouri watershed planning engineer for the SCS.

SIKESTON - Dennis Ziegenhorn, state representative of the 157th District, will be master of ceremonies for Tuesday night's Farmer Recognition Banquet.

SIKESTON - Debbie Jackson was named Sikeston Winner Princess at the Kingsway Plaza Mall Saturday afternoon. She is the 16-year-old daughter of Alice Jackson of Sikeston. Second runner-up Sheri Stalker, 16, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stalker of Sikeston and first runner-up Tory Bloemer is the 17-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Bloemer of Sikeston.

MINER - The 1996 Farmers Recognition Banquet was held Thursday at the Ramada Inn. David Murray was presented with the Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer Award from Brian Menz, president of the Sikeston Jaycees. Glenn W. Barks received the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Agri-Business Service Award from Dan Jennings.
