Family Fun Day was success, membership drive set to begin

Sunday, November 5, 2006

On behalf of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce I would like to congratulate the Historic Midtown Development Group on a successful Halloween Family Fun Day in the Park, downtown last Saturday.

With the help of the downtown businesses, humane society and other groups fun was had by all.

Now the Historic Midtown Development Group is in business with the Christmas Open House that will take place the weekend of Nov. 17 and 18 with carriage rides, music, Santa Claus and other activities. Many families have made this part of their holiday kickoff tradition and if you haven't ever come downtown for the festivities, you really need to join us this year for the fun.

I would also like to congratulate the winners of the 12th Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest c o-sponsored by the chamber and the Sikeston Elks. Most Original went to Junior Girl Scout Troop 37, Most Creative to Sikeston Junior High Art Club, Most Drug Awareness to Girl Scout Troop 66, the Scariest was a tie between Brownie Troop 75 and Webelos Scouts Pack 41, Den 4.

A big thank you to their sponsors for helping the kids with their creative anti-

drug messages.

Finally, I would like to mention our upcoming membership drive.

We have new members joining the chamber every month, but each November we make a special push to recruit new business members or business that for whatever reason are not currently part of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce. Our membership drive will kick off Monday, Nov. 6 and run through Thursday, Nov. 9. If a chamber member calls on you, please listen to what they have to say and consider a chamber membership and the value of the many services the chamber provides.

Just a few things the chamber provides include: maintaining a popular website that contains value information about our community and its activities and making referrals to our chamber members when individuals and businesses inquire for specific services. We print and distribute maps and magazines about or area. We work diligently on economic development, education and workforce issues. We work closely with city and county governments on business and quality of life issues. We are information central for tourist, businesses and residents. These are just a few of the activities a chamber membership supports.

If you are not currently a chamber member please consider becoming one, we have special rates for retirees and non-business owners.
