Other weekend events

Thursday, June 22, 2006

Biking isn't the only source of entertainment in East Prairie this weekend. It is the beginning of the Sweet Corn celebration, which continues through the Fourth of July. Here's a glimpse of a few other activities planned for this weekend:

Scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, the event, themed "Lost in the Fifties Tonight," will feature live musical entertainment, a jitterbug contest, hula hoop contest and fifties dress contest, in addition to a crawdad boil, soul food, food vendors and children's games. An Elvis impersonator is set to appear, a group of local talent will present "Bringing Back the Stars," and the night will wrap up with a patriotic musical presentation, "Tribute to America," at 9 p.m.

Open to all ages, this event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Friday Registration is $20 and each participant gets a T-shirt.

There are separate male and female divisions and the 5K Walk is open to all ages.

Log on to www.tourdecorn.com for registration form or call Donna Smith at 380-6232.

Corn Pickin' Flea Market and Corny Sidewalk Sale are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Following the bicycle ride, from approximately 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., there will be a pasta dinner at the Family Life Center at the Church of God. The meal is open to all. Tickets are sold at the door for $5 each.
