SIKESTON - Scoring in seven out of the nine innings, the American Legion softball team defeated the Junior Chamber of Commerce by a score of 18-7 in a game Friday night which saw both teams kicking the ball around.

SIKESTON - There will be an informational dinner tonight at the high school cafeteria for informational purposes to the public about the fund-raising campaign for the Missouri Delta Community Hospital. The dinner starts at 6 p.m.

SIKESTON - Ralph Ebersole, vice president of operations at Noranda Aluminum Inc., told members of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce that a proposed federal law could have a detrimental effect on Noranda.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Factory Outlet Stores recently made a donation to the Sikeston AAU Basketball team which will compete in a National AAU Basketball Tournament this July and August in Coco Beach, Fla. Presenting Bruce Lawrence, coach of the AAU basketball team, a donation for their trip to help pay for expenses was Lisa Neumeyer.

SIKESTON - The local Rotary Club was presented with discussion about the operation of the Missouri Highway Patrol in Southeast Missouri by Lt. Jim McNiell, in charge of the Highway Patrol's satellite office in Sikeston. During his talk, McNiell emphasized the need for drivers to watch their speed in light of the recent change to 70 miles per hour.

SIKESTON - Construction continues on the second phase of development at the shopping center adjacent to the new J.C. Penny's. The 25,000 square foot retailing area will be filled by Dollar Tree, Cato's, Payless Shoes and Hibbitt's Sporting Goods. The work is to be completed this fall.
