I'm Back from Birmingham! As predicted, the "The Great American Roadshow" which was held March 27 and 28 in Birmingham, Ala., was a great success.
During the two-day show we visited with over 50 Tour Group Leaders and Operators and invited them to bring their tours to Sikeston and Miner. We also gave them information on the surrounding areas events and festivals as well.
They were very interested in what we have to offer, one thing in particular was that tours headed to Branson from here traveling Highway 60 (which is now mostly four lanes) was the fact that they would be within a couple miles of one of the largest natural springs in the world. The Big Spring has over 200 million gallons of water flowing from it daily and is located in Van Buren.
Our prepared itineraries are quite popular with the group leaders as well. We have five itineraries which offer exciting things to see and do in our area; they include Agritourism spring and fall tours, Charleston's Azalea festival in the spring (which is the 19th through the 23rd of this month), a patriotic tour, and historic tours.
During a session at the show we spoke with a group leader from Birmingham about our Rodeo and ended up booking a tour bus. We have been in contact with them since the show and have confirmed the dates. We have tied the Rodeo outing with a tour of New Madrid on their way home. The tour is for 2007 and is now being advertised to their customers.
Upon returning from the show, we sent followed up letters to all of the Group Leaders and Operators and attached the requested itineraries. We feel several important contacts were made and we'll continue to stay in touch with these new friends as new events and attractions arise.
So if you have an attraction or event which would benefit by group tours please make sure we are aware of it by calling 471-6362 and we will be happy to include your information.
