Essie Jones, pictured with Tracy Jordan of USDA Rural Development, was able to have her home repaired with the assistance of the USDA, Rural Development's 504 repair program. This program assists homeowners, both non-senior and senior citizens, obtain affordable financing for home repairs. Loans are made at 1 percent interest for a term up to 20 years in order to provide affordable monthly payments. Applicants must meet income and credit guidelines. Loans are available for such repairs as new roof, siding, windows, insulation, electrical, wiring, septic systems, bathroom renovation or to make a home handicapped accessible if the homeowner is disabled.
