SIKESTON - Construction on an addition to the Dement Motor Company building was started yesterday morning on the south side of the company's garage and offices on South New Madrid Street.

SIKESTON - Alex C. Waters announced today that he would be a candidate on the Democratic ticket for the office of surveyor.
CHARLESTON - Completion of the audit of the Mississippi County Collector's Office filed Wednesday in the county clerk's office disclosed a shortage of $34,549.51. The audit by the state auditor's office covered the period from March 1962 to Feb. 29, 1968.
SIKESTON - Leisure time on the weekends is not experienced by all workers in the Sikeston area. Sikeston Public Safety officer Sgt. John Mallott is among those who work on the weekends. The fire divisions PSOs perform a variety of tasks from rolling fire hose and inspecting equipment to basic housekeeping chores. The fire division is required to work in 24-hour shifts, which requires officers to complete kitchen duties and other simple chores between fire calls. Mallott spent time painting lockers for use within the department.

LILBOURN - The selection of royalty will be the highlight of Lilbourn's annual week long celebration beginning Tuesday. The community's annual Funfest, Tuesday through Saturday, is being sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and the Volunteer Fire Department.
SIKESTON - Miriam Brehemer works on her painting during a watercolor seminar at the Elks Lodge Thursday afternoon. The two-day seminar, sponsored by the Sikeston Art League and the Missouri Arts Council, emphasized watercolor and drawing techniques.
