CHARLESTON -- Sammy L. Riggens Jr., 51, died July 11, 2008, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Sept. 14, 1956, in Wyatt, to Samuel L. Rigney Sr. of Charleston and the late Margie Ree McCain Riggens, he was a 1975 Charleston High School graduate. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy and was of the Baptist belief.
On Sept. 13, 1980, in Highland Park, Mich., he married Cynthia Frazier who survives of Highland Park.
Other survivors include: two sons, Timothy L. Frazier of Charleston and Spencer Frazier of Highland Park; two daughters and a son-in-law, Serita Riggens of Highland Park and Alaya and Dajuan Rich of Vilseck, Germany; nine brothers, Troy Riggens, Calvin Rigney, Gary Rigney and Jerome Rigney of Charleston, Swayne Rigney of Rome, Ga., Terry Rigney of Pacific, Tyrone Rigney of Indianapolis, Sgt. Gyrome Rigney of Jacksonville, N.C., and John L. Johnson of Bloomington, Ill.; five sisters, Brenda Hollis and Carolyn Smith of Indianapolis, and Deborah Rigney, Amelia Murray and Rita Spence of Charleston; and five grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Williams Funeral Home in Charleston. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Opportunity Church of God in Christ. The Rev. Lavern Frazier will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
