SIKESTON - Virginia Maxine Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Thompson, and Billy E. Shell, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Shell, were married Friday evening at the home of the Rev. J.W. Hoffert, the officiating minister.
SIKESTON - The 16th annual four-day Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo will open with a parade at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7. Featured will be area bands, queens, Boy and Girl Scouts and Sikeston club floats.

WAPPAPELLO - Clifford Jones and Albert Merrell landed a 54-pound flat head catfish this week at Wappapello Lake jug fishing.
PARMA - As many as 150 persons may soon be added to the employment rolls in New Madrid County. Durbin-Durco of St. Louis, a manufacturer of metal products such as chains and loading binders, announced that it intends to expand two of its operations to a 100,000 square-foot facility in Parma.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Junior Babe Ruth player Jeff Davis was tagged out at third in the second inning of Sikeston's 15-6 victory over Dexter in the opening round of the District 5 Babe Ruth baseball tournament.
DEXTER - The New Madrid County 16-18 year old Senior Babe Ruth baseball team recently won the Dexter Youth League District 1 Championship with a season record of 24-5. The team also placed second at the Cape Girardeau Firecracker Classic Tournament held over the Fourth of July weekend where they squared off against Dexter, Sikeston, Jackson and Farmington. The team will represent District 1 in the state tournament July 16-19 held in Booneville.
