CHARLESTON -- Robert Sturgis Miller, 96, formerly of Alexandria, Va., died at 5:54 a.m., July 17, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born July 4, 1912, in Norfolk, Va., to the late John D. and Cora Williams Miller, he moved to Washington, D.C. in 1917, and then to Alexandria in 1948. He was employed as a salesman with the Nabisco Company from 1939 until his retirement in 1977. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church in Alexandria. He had lived in Charleston since May 2008.
In 1942, he married Mary Frances Sanford, who preceded him in death on April 27, 2008.
One brother and two sisters also preceded him in death.
Survivors included: two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mary Alice Miller of Charleston and Michael and Karen Miller of Stafford, Va.; five grandchildren, Ryan Miller of Stafford, Jennifer (Chris) Rawlins of Columbia, S.C., Sarah Miller of Alexandria, David Slaughter of Humble, Texas and Bryant Slaughter of Hempstead, Texas; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Alexandria.
Burial with full military rites will follow at the Mount Comfort Cemetery under the direction of DeMaine Funeral Home of Alexandria.
