Shirley Newman

DEXTER -- Shirley Jean Newman, 67, died July 18, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born June 11, 1941, in Poplar Bluff, to Ruby Thompson Sample and the late Theodore Sample, she was of the Catholic belief and a member of the Dexter Eagles Lodge.

She was married to Larry Newman, who died July 11, 1993.

Survivors in addition to her mother include: two daughters, Tammy Newman of Jonesboro, Ark. and Teresa Cobb of Dexter; one brother, Tom Sample of Poplar Bluff; and five grandchildren.

Services were held today at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Charles Medley of Potosi officiating.

Burial followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
