SIKESTON - Reading is important for mental growth and the Sikeston Public Library has been assisting in the effort for the past 50 years. In celebration of the library's birthday, several events have been conducted for youngsters, throughout the week. Alice Jackson, librarian, gave Justin Hale a cupcake and ice cream during a party to celebrate the 50th birthday. The child is one of 29 who attended the Story Hour event Monday. Helpers for the day were Linda Norton, Alex Norton, David Norton and Jennifer Idleman.

BOONEVILLE - With a little drizzle standing in their way, the Bambino Little League Baseball 11-12 year old Missouri State Champions, Sikeston Bulldogs, took care of business Saturday with a Regional Tournament victory destroying Grand Forks, N.D., 13-1 in four innings.
