SIKESTON - Harold Lane opened a new shoe department at the Wagner Clothing Store on Saturday. Lane was formerly employed at the National Butane Gas Company.

SIKESTON - Several water and sewer construction projects to benefit Sikeston residents and industry, both new and existing, are under way now or will be soon. The Board of Municipal Utilities voted to recommend the city council accept the apparent low bid for additional construction of water and sewer projects of $831,663.35.

SIKESTON - The Eastside Church of the Nazarene will conduct a vacation Bible school Monday through Aug. 16 for children ages 3 through 14 years old.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston American Legion team will host the Missouri District 14 baseball tournament this weekend at VFW Stadium. Sikeston's first game is at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Poplar Bluff.

SIKESTON - Katie Jenkins, a second grade teacher at Southwest Elementary School in Sikeston, unpacks boxes in her new classroom Wednesday. Jenkins is starting to prepare for the 1998-1999 school year which starts Aug. 17.

NEW MADRID - New Madrid County Central tackle Brian Shaver runs through a drill during NMCC's football camp on Wednesday evening. The camp started on Monday and will wrap on Friday. NMCC will face Rosary on Sept. 4 for the first game of the season.
