SIKESTON - Glen Keller, Sikeston Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 22, was initiated into the Golden Sun Society, an honorary Scouting organization, in ceremonies held at Camp Lewallen.

BENTON - Sheriff John Dennis won renomination in Tuesday's Democratic primary election in his bid for a fifth term.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Department of Public Safety Cadet Brian Maddox gave candy to Danyeil Mitchell of Sikeston when she and her mother drove past the Easter Seal Society Beltmobile Wednesday. Danyeil was wearing her seat belt. The Beltmobile reminds motorists to buckle up.

DEXTER - Pam Kruse has accepted an appointment to the Dexter Board of Education to fill the unexpired one-year term of Ron Medler, who resigned due to a move from the district. Kruse is a lifelong member of Dexter and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Rogers of Dexter.

SIKESTON - You might be surprised at who your friends are, ask K.J. Petty. The fourth-grader recently received help from a group of men he'd never even met. The Elks Lodge came to Petty's rescue immediately after hearing he needed a computer to help him with a learning disability. Not only did they prove someone cares, they agreed to foot the entire bill.

SIKESTON - With an ever increasing amount of karts and spectators, SEMO Kart Raceway hosted another night of exciting go-kart racing last Saturday. In the 1998 inaugural Beginner's Class race, Corbin Matthews of Dexter took his first checkered flag. Meanwhile, Hunter Schuerenberg won the Yard Kart Class feature race. Mallory Gonzalez won the Restricted Junior Class and Brandy Gonzales won the the Stock Light class.
